Ghana is divided into 10 administrative regions and 110 district assemblies.

Status: Republic. Former British colony. It won independence on March 6, 1957 and became the first country south of the Sahara to be free. She became a Republic on July 1, 1960.

A Embaixada da República de Gana foi inaugurada no Rio de Janeiro em 1962, como uma das primeiras Missões Diplomáticas da África a se instalar na República Federativa do Brasil. A Embaixada mudou-se para Brasília em 1972 e atualmente é reconhecida e presente em (concorrentemente acreditada) outros 11 países da América do Sul: Argentina, Bolívia, Chile, Colômbia, Equador, Guiana, Paraguai, Peru, Suriname, Uruguai e Venezuela.
A Embaixada trabalha para coordenar, promover e proteger os interesses de Gana, no Brasil e em outros países de acreditação, de modo a contribuir significativamente para o melhoramento da segurança e prosperidade sócio-econômica de Gana.
A Embaixada também serve como uma referência direta para obtenção de informações gerais sobre Gana, um mercado bem informado sobre políticas e procedimentos para a eficiente promoção do comércio, investimento, turismo, imigração e serviços consulares.

His Excellency Ambassador Daniel Yaw Adjei
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to Brazil
H.E. Mr. Daniel Yaw Adjei assumed duty as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil (with concurrent accreditation to Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela) in November, 2002. He is a career diplomat with over three decades experience in the diplomatic service in Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States of America.
Prior to his assumption of duty in Brazil, Mr. Daniel Yaw Adjei served as the Ambassador of Ghana to the Democratic Republic of Congo with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic, from December, 2001 to August, 2002.
Ambassador Yaw Adjei has extensive experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomatic practice. He served in the Embassies of Ghana in Islamabad, Pakistan as Head of Chancery from September, 1980 to December, 1983; in Washington. DC, USA as Head of Chancery and Acting Head of Mission from August, 1989 to September, 1993 ; and in Geneva, Switzerland as Deputy Permanent Representative at the Ghana Permanent Mission to the United Nations Offices in Geneva, Switzerland and Vienna, Austria.
As an officer in Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which he first joined in September, 1974, Ambassador Adjei served as Desk Officer at the Inspectorate and Audit; Economic Relations; Protocol; and the Africa and OAU Bureaus respectively and rose to be Director in various sections of the Ministry including, Director of Finance and Accounts; Director, Middle East and Asia; Director of Passports; and Supervising Director, Political and Economic Department. He was the overseer of the International Students Hostel in Accra, and also seconded to the Office of the Chief of Staff at the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) Headquarters as an Assistant Director.
Before joining the Foreign Service, Ambassador Adjei taught English at Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School. He also served as an Assistant Examiner (English) with the West African Examinations Council.
Mr. Daniel Yaw Adjei obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana, Legon in 1973. He holds Post-Graduate Certificates in Management, and in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Public Administration and Management (GIMPA), as well as a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations and a Master of Arts Degree in International Politics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India. He attended several management seminars and courses, including the following: Senior Management Course for Directors and Chief Executives, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Accra, Ghana, May-June, 1995; Seminar on Multilateral Economic Negotiations, Geneva, Switzerland, 21 – 25 October, 1996; Workshop on Mediation Techniques, Geneva, Switzerland, 25-27 February, 1997; International Diplomatic Seminar on Human Rights, Salzburg, Austria 28July – 1 August, 1997; and International Economic Diplomacy, Bratislava, Slovak Republic, 2 – 6 December, 1998.
Ambassador Daniel Yaw Adjei was born at Akwatia, Ghana on 22 November, 1950. He is married with three children.
